Dennis Jonas Obituary

Dennis Jonas 1949 - 2011 Dennis lost his brief battle with cancer on Monday, April 18th, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Burwell, Nebraska in 1949, his family relocated to Idaho in 1956. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and after his honorary discharge in 1972, he met and married the love of his life; Mary Haberger in Boston, Massachusetts. They made their home in Boise in 1972 where they both graduated from Boise State University. Dennis was very active in his community. He served a term as President of the Capital City Kiwanis club and was a participating member for many years. As a local realtor, Dennis shared his knowledge of the business by teaching Real Estate courses at the College of Southern Idaho, Boise State University, and Pioneer Real Estate School. His entrepreneurial passions led him to develop many successful real estate websites. Dennis always said his greatest pride came from his children. He was proud of his son, Eric, and his perfect SAT score, along with his many accomplishments at MIT. His daughter Courtney was his special angel. He was her biggest fan on and off the basketball court, both playing and coaching. He had a special bond with Nathan, who was more like a son than a nephew. Dennis had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that made him the ultimate prankster. He had a generous heart and always put family first. We love him and he will be missed, especially his endearing wink. Dennis is survived by his wife Mary; children Eric and Courtney (Tyler Weaver); his sisters; Denise Vitagliano (William & Alicia), Lynda Adams (Dan, Kevin, Sam, Kelli, Gerren, Kris & Kyle) his brother Alan (Patti, Nathan, & Kamala), his mother EvLyn Jonas and numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his father, Harry Jonas and his baby grand-niece, Karmyn Jonas. A viewing will be held at 6pm followed by a Vigil at 7pm, April 26th, at St. Mark's Catholic Church 7960 W. Northview, Boise. The funeral Mass will be on Wednesday April 27th at 10:30am, followed by a sharing of memories luncheon at St. Mark's. Committal services with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor, Garden City. His family would especially like to thank Dr. Gregory Lewer, Dr.'s Norman and Dan Zuckerman and the team at M.S.T.I. for their wonderful support, encouragement, and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis' name to Legacy Hospice, 680 So. Progress Ave. Meridian Idaho 83642 We are thankful for the help and compassion they bestowed upon us.

Dear Jonas Family,

We no longer take the paper, so we missed seeing about your loss of Dennis. We enjoyed knowing your family and are thankful for the work Dennis put in arranging for the competition for the girls in basketball and the friendship we developed through the years. Our prayers are with your family as you go through life without your husband/father.

Dennis was a wonderful man. He was a wonderful teacher, a great friend who truly loved his wife, children, and his friends. I highly admired and respected him. Dennis, even though your job here on earth is done sooner than expected, God has a bigger plan for you in heaven. You are loved and missed by many my friend. Love ya guy,

Dennis was well respected and loved in the real estate community! He was my instructor in Real Estate Essentials in 1997 and influenced many new real estate professionals. He was full of humor, good teaching, and pride for his children. He spoke often of his son's computer savvy and we were all in all of the things he could do! In 1997, I had barely touched a computer!) The industry will miss him. Rest in peace Dennis

Dennis loved seeing Courtney excel in basketball and I had the chance to help her with her skills when she was in Y-ball. He loved watching her play. May you rest in peace.

Dennis told me many stories of his past, most were funny. Always showed great pride when he spoke of his children. His insight & vision in Real Estate he shared with his peers. Helped me in many ways & it felt good just being around him. He had a wonderful life.

Dennis,

You have been a family friend as far back as 30 years ago. I can hardly remember an event in my life that you weren't present for. Thank you for your special interest in Stephen and for always coming to his birthday parties. You will be sadly but fondly missed.

Much Love,

Theresa (Smith) Mitchell

Uncle Dennis,

It’s been a very long time since fireworks in your backyard by the apricot tree and since I wrecked your bed in tirade- sorry about that- and I know a child’s memory isn’t infallible, much is replaced and forgotten as we get older, but from what I remember and what my mother has shared with me you and Aunt Cookie played pivotal roles in freeing us from a real life nightmare. For this, I cannot begin to express my gratitude not only for my mother and sister, but for myself. Thanks for helping us, for allowing us to have a chance in this world. It takes just a kindness to change a life and both you and Aunt Cookie have done that and more for my family.

Though that is just one of your many legacies it’s by far not your greatest. Raising Eric and Courtney is by far your crowning achievement, for much like their mother and father, both are amazing people. You and Cookie have raised two bright and kind-hearted individuals, which the world as large and small as it may be is better for. I’m glad to call all of you my family.

You, Aunt Mary, Eric and Courtney are forever in our thoughts, hearts and prayers.

With love,

Shannon

I was shocked to hear in the Idaho State Journal, Pocatello, of Dennis's passing! He was my real estate instructor/mentor /friend. He had such a good sense of humor and delighted in "pushing my buttons" as I am an Obama supporter. I will truly miss him. My sincere condolences go out to the Jonas family.

I was stationed with Dennis in the USAF at F.E Warren AFB in Wyoming. I remember how proud he was of his black Plymouth Baracuda. I remember Dennis being an upright guy and a good Security Policeman.

Some of my fondest memories of junior high, high school, and college revolve around the time I spent with Dennis. We laughed a lot, got into trouble numerous times, escaped capture, and had the kind of fun adolescents are supposed to have. Though our lives took different paths I thought of the times together often. The world is a better place that Dennis was in it. My deepest sympathy to Dennis' family.

Dennis was one of the best of the class of 67 at Capital and was througout our high school years one of my best friends. We had a chance to reunite at a class reunion a few years ago and we had begun to work together to plan the next one. We will all miss him and wish his family the best.
