Donald Clark Obituary

Donald Montgomery Clark

July 22, 1932 - January 29, 2024

Meridian, Idaho - Donald Montgomery Clark, 91, Meridian and McCall, Idaho passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024, with family at his side.

Don was born to Hassel and Nettie Clark on July 22, 1932 in Boise, Idaho. His early years were spent on Whitney Bench. It was then that he met his future wife, Marcia, when they attended birthday parties of their classmates at Whitney Grade School. Don graduated from Boise High School and the University of Idaho. He was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity where he met many lifelong friends.

During summer vacations Don loved being a smokejumper in McCall in the days of the Ford Trimotor plane. They were dropped into the wilderness, put out fires and walked out, carrying their heavy gear, producing comradery with fellow jumpers that lasted a lifetime.

After college Don spent two years in Germany with the 4th Armored 899 Group Tank Battalion, US Army, serving under Alexander Haig, later the Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan. Following his stint in the army, Don joined Price Candy Company in Kansas City, started as a dishwasher in New Orleans and ended as Executive Vice President over 160 restaurants all over the US. During his restaurant career he was featured in a national restaurant magazine citing "Excelling in management and organization."

In 1980 Don and Marcia moved "back home" to McCall, Idaho and established Clark Real Estate which they ran for 25 years. In McCall Don was active in local issues and committees, including as a Fire Board Commissioner for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dick (Aleda) and many dear friends and associates.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcia, daughter Ann Ebeling (Glen) grandson Erik (Alicia) and great-grandchildren Lana and Luke, and grandson Brett (Alex); Son Donald C Sloan III (Julie) sons Jack Zagunis and Joe Zagunis, and their families; Daughter Kathlyn Johans (Tim) granddaughter Megan Neve (Gustav) and great-grandchildren Ted and Tom, granddaughter Molly Wiebold (Kurt) and great grandchildren Lucy, Hank, Stella, Elsie and Ernie, and granddaughter Amy Ann Johans.

Don is remembered for his humor, affability, loyalty to friends and love of family. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to sincerely thank Keystone Hospice and all his caregivers at The Meadows, Touchmark for their wonderful care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Tunnels to Towers Foundations (www.t2t.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
