Eileen Dunlap Obituary

Eileen Leona Gibbs Dunlap, 89 of Nampa passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Trinity Mission of Midland. She came into this world on October 9, 1921 in Caldwell, Idaho as the first child of Thomas Harper & Nettie Pearl Atteberry Gibbs. During the Great Depression the Gibbs family fell on hard times. In order to reduce the hardship to her family, Eileen worked for Ella and Mable Gupton doing domestic housework in exchange for room, board and clothing. This arrangement allowed Eileen to continue her education and she was very proud to have graduated from Nampa Senior High School in 1940. Shortly thereafter, she married her lifelong mate Allen Demonda Dunlap on August 17, 1941. Their union was blessed with three children. After World War II she worked several years as the custodial manager for Samaritan Hospital in Nampa until it closed in the mid 60s. During this time Eileen, family and friends enjoyed many happy memories staying at the family cabin on West Mountain in Cascade. She later worked as a lab technician for Birds Eye / Carnation in Nampa until her retirement. Subsequently, she became very involved as a civic volunteer and historian within the Nampa community. Eileen along with her sister and best friend Eiletta Wade worked countless hours supporting many Nampa clubs and organizations. She held numerous leadership positions with the Nampa Council on Aging, the Loyal Order of the Eagles, RSVP and the Nampa Senior Center. She loved to travel with her sisters Kathleen, Eiletta, Mae and brother-in-law Vic. Together they traveled to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Canada and many places throughout the US. Her devotion to the City of Nampa and the State of Idaho are only surpassed by her love of her family and country. Eileen is survived by daughter-in-law Margaretha Dunlap, daughter Patricia (Paul) Cox, son Ernie (Jeannie) Dunlap, two sisters Mae (Vic) Paul and Kathleen Gibbs, one brother Jonathan (Linda) Gibbs, nine grandchildren: Nathan (Tammie) Cox, Clint (Guerline) Cox, Brandon Cox, Jackie (Mike)Chapman, Stacie Cox, Steven (Amber) Cox, Colton Cox, Ernest Dunlap, Douglas Dunlap and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen, son Tom, sisters Eiletta Wade, Charlotte Stocker, Sylvia Hollinger, and brothers Robert Gibbs, Thomas Gibbs, and Joseph Gibbs. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Nampa Seventh Ward LDS Chapel, 3007 Sunnyridge Road, Nampa. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19th at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa and at the church from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery immediately following the services. A luncheon will be served for family and friends at the Seventh Ward Cultural hall.

Pat, Paul, Ernie and Jeannie please accept our condolences at the loss of Eileen. She was a super aunt, I loved listening to her stories of when the Gibbs kids were young. Mom (Eiletta) and Eileen were so close and did so much together. I love her and will miss our little visits. Love your cousins,
Barb and Tony
