Emeterio Ysursa, 85, of Boise, Idaho passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Emeterio was born in Iurreta, Bizkaia Spain on April 18, 1931 to Juan Yzurza Urrutia and Catalina Zelayeta Urzueta. Emeterio was the sixth child out of eight siblings; Juan, Jose, Agustin, Guillerma, Angel, Maria and Begoña.
Emeterio worked on his family's baserri, "Yturburu", until he immigrated to the United States in 1955 at the age of 24. He worked for Simplot as a sheepherder for the Bruneau Sheep Company in Grandview, Idaho. In 1960, he returned to the Basque Country and married Adela Aldamiz in Gauteguez de Arteaga. There he worked at the Taberna Vasca in Gernika where he learned how to cook. He later returned to the United States and then sent for his wife and son, Ramon. During these hard working years, Luis Angel, Jose Javier and Rosa Mari were born. For the next 10 years, Emeterio cooked for his uncle at the Valencia Hotel and later at the Letamendi's Boarding House. He retired from Guerdon Industries where he worked for 30 years.
In 1988, Emeterio married Flora Aldazabal. They enjoyed 28 years together cooking at the Basque Center, working in the garden and walking their dog on the Greenbelt. Emeterio was very proud of his tomatoes, peppers and garlic. They had fun traveling to the Basque Country and cruising with their dear friends, Segundo and Serafina Totorica, to Mexico and Hawaii. Emeterio and Flora shared great joy in spending time with their grandchildren picking potatoes and cherries and attending various sporting events. Emeterio took much pleasure in helping his son with his sheep and visiting nearby sheep ranches.
Emeterio was a dedicated and loving husband, wonderful father, fun loving Aitxitxa and loyal friend. He was always delighted to see all his grandkids and we will always remember how his face lit up with happiness when he was around them. He always showed unconditional love, was a very hard worker and appreciated all the simple things in life. He was a member of Euskaldunak, Inc. and Homedale Basque Club. He attended all of the Basque picnics, dinners and other Basque social events.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Flora Aldazabal of Boise; his four children: Ramon (Daniela) Ysursa of Boise; Luis Ysursa of Mountain Home; Jose Javier Ysursa of Boise and Rosa Mari Ysursa of Meridian; stepchildren: Iciar Aldazabal (George) and Albert Aldazabal (Gina); thirteen grandchildren: Antonio, Natalia and Karina Ysursa; Nerea and Nekane Davis; Ariana and Mikayla Ysursa; Nickolas Ysursa; Mikel, Jon and Tomas Totorica and Christina and Ana Aldazabal.
The family of Emeterio would like to extend a special thank you to Maria and Karlie of Harrison Hope Hospice, Signe, Chris and Barbara of Touchmark and Jon Aramburu for all the care and compassion given to him during his illness.
Rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, May 27, 2016 at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, 3629 E. Ustick Road, Meridian. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Boise.
