Ester Yambao Griffith passed away at home in the arms of her husband on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 7:25pm. She was born February 19, 1939, in the Philippines to Ricardo Yambao and Patricia Balanao.
On December 22, 1961, she married Donald E Griffith at the Philippines Independent Catholic Church. They have been together for 58 yrs. She raised four boys and two girls, Richard E Griffith, Ronald E Griffith, Robert H Griffith, Theresa J Griffith, Patricia A Griffith and James L Griffith. They have 23 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Ester was only six years old when she witnessed the death of two of her brothers at the hands of the Japanese occupying forces in 1944. She arrived in the U.S. with her family in 1963, and for the next 54 years, she traveled across the U.S. with her husband while he was in the Marine Corps. They moved back to the Philippines for four more years until his retirement from the Marine Corps. She worked tirelessly at HP, Jabil and the Boise Air Terminal. She loved the outdoors, and fishing was top on her list. She enjoyed camping, horseback riding, archery competition and deer and elk hunting with her husband.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018, 11am, at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah St., Boise. Upon completion, she will be escorted to the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery to be buried alongside all her fellow Heroes. After the services, there will be a get-together for lunch/buffet. All are invited. My sincere thanks to the director and staff of the Relyea Funeral Chapel. They were outstanding in their advice and helping to set up this arrangement for my wife. They were very professional and loving to my needs and my loss. Thank you ALL!
