Frances G. "Frani" Baldwin
1922 - 2012
Frances Genevieve Fahey Baldwin. Frani's spirit left her body in the early hours of Thursday, November 29, 2012. She slipped away peacefully in her sleep at a local care center after residing there for a day and a half. Frani was almost 91.
Frani was born in Higgins, Texas to Ed and Sara Fahey on January 3, 1922. She was the eighth of 10 children. Her family owned and operated a farm. The family left the Texas Panhandle just before the Dust Bowl and, after a brief stay in Wichita, Kansas, made their way west to Puyallup, Washington.
Frani was a beautiful young woman and was chosen Miss Shipyards in Tacoma. She was tied for the title of Daffodil Parade Queen in Puyallup and lost by the flip of a coin. Frani served as Daffodil Parade Princess. She was often sought after by local newspaper photographers.
In 1946, Frani married James I. (Irv) Baldwin and they had a son, Irv, and a daughter, Bert. In 1958 the family moved to Boise where Frani and Irv eventually became owner/operators of the State Motel.
During most of that time Frani also worked as a secretary at the Idaho Dept. of Forestry and, after it merged with the Idaho Dept. of Lands, as the administrative secretary to the department director. She retired after 22 years of service.
After retirement and the sale of the motel, Frani and Irv enjoyed traveling throughout the west to see friends and relatives. Frani was an avid reader and she loved to shop. At the time of her passing she had merchandise on backorder.
