Frances Devore Obituary

Frances Ellen Devore
1942 - 2017
Frances Ellen DeVore, age 74, died on March 6, 2017 in Denver, Colorado following a two-year struggle with cancer. She was born on July 27, 1942 in Bluffton, Ohio and lived on a farm as the youngest of five children. Frances graduated from Pandora-Gilboa High school in 1960 and from The Ohio State University in 1966 with a degree in health education. She obtained a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston, Texas in 1970. From 1972 to 1995, Frances lived on a cattle ranch in Arlee, Montana and later in Missoula, Montana. She lived in Boise, Idaho from 1995 to 2014 when she moved to Denver, Colorado to be closer to her daughter. Frances had a lifelong career in health education. She worked at the Missoula County Health Department, Planned Parenthood, and Carewise, Inc. in Missoula. She also worked at Healthwise in Boise. She had a special knack for using her skill as a writer to raise awareness regarding how to be an informed healthcare consumer. During the course of her career, her irreverent sense of humor helped her forge lasting friendships with a number of wise women whose counsel, wit, and support she valued tremendously. Frances is survived by her daughter, Lillian Alves (husband Todd Bane), granddaughter Bridget Bane, sisters Lois Vinge of Sutton, Nebraska and Mary Ann DeVore of San Marcos, Texas, and brother Robert DeVore of Carson City, Nevada. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George DeVore of Pandora, Ohio who died as a child, and Howard Devore, of Twentynine Palms, California. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Park Hill United Church of Christ, 2600 Leyden Street, Denver, Colorado 80207. Frances loved beautiful plants and flowers and wanted to serve as a witness for justice and social action. Donations in her memory may be made to the Idaho Botanical Garden or the Boise First Congregational United Church of Christ.
