Frank Lopez Obituary

Frank Lopez Frank Lopez of Emmett, Idaho succumbed after a long and courageous fight with heart congestion failure and COPD at the age of 77. Frank lived his life sharp, tenacious, and fiercely devoted to his family. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery located at 320 Collins Road, Boise, behind the Dry Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Potter Funeral Chapel Emmett. Frank was born June 15, 1929 in Bridgeport, Conn. He was the second youngest child of four children of Frank and Concepcion Lopez who immigrated from Spain in the 1920's to Bridgeport, Conn. Frank started working at the age of 14 in a Defense Munitions Plant during World War II, and then at the age of 17, he joined the Navy Reserve for 20 months, then he enlisted in the United States Army. He served 26 years and 10 months serving his country by being in the Korean War, Europe, Canada, and in the Vietnam conflict. Plus, he served on the USS Missouri for a short time. He specialized in satellite communications, which is where the foundation came from for the cellular and satellite technology of today. Frank retired as Sergeant 1st Class at Fort Still, Okla. in 1974. He then moved to Idaho and started working for Aluma-Glass Industries in Nampa, Idaho and retired as a machinist after 14 years. From there, Frank enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his beautiful wife Barbara, children, and grandchildren. He loved to work in his wood shop making beautiful things for his children and grandchildren for Christmas and their birthdays. He also loved to go bowling once a week at the bowling alley in Emmett, Idaho where he could spend time with friends. Plus, he enjoyed going fishing and sightseeing around the state and the Pacific Northwest. But his favorite enjoyment was sitting out on his porch listening to the neighbor kids play up and down the street, and to his grandsons in his den on the weekends. Frank was an avid reader, love to watch cartoons with his children, and enjoyed being with his family and friends. Frank is survived by his wife Barbara E. Lopez, two sons Robyn H. Lopez and daughter-in-law Shannon Lopez, and Frank M. Lopez, and one daughter Concepcion B. Grimes and son-in-law David L. Grimes, plus five grandsons; Christopher L. Grimes, Jacob R. Grimes, Frank A. Lopez, Daniel M. Grimes, and Robyn H. Lopez, and one granddaughter, Kaitlynn Lopez; a sister Alice Garmendia of Mountain Home and her four children; Linda, Mary Ann, Bud and Kathy, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was a very special man who believed in paying attention to what you were doing, then doing it right, and was always learning something new everyday. He was a wonderful and loving husband, a good devoted father, and an even more great grandfather. Frank will be very deeply missed by his family, and always thought of fondly by his friends, neighbors and all the people he met in his long life.

With fondest memories of a very dear Friend. I pray that You and my Barb are watching over our respective families and guiding our daily quests. May the good Lord lock up his good whiskey and oil the lanes for you to enjoy bowling while you wait for the rest of us "sandbaggers' to join you.
