Garry Carroll

1942 - 2025

Garry left us behind just minutes shy of his 83rd birthday from complications of a TBI.

He was born on 11/15/1942 to Ruth Zell (Cantrall) Carroll and Michael Harold Carroll in Emmett, ID. He spent his early years between Emmett, Garden Valley, Boise, and the family mine on Packer John. Garry was always interested in vehicles and was taught much of what he knew by his Uncle Frank. While Garry was in the Idaho Guard he was trained as a vehicle mechanic and helicopter maintenance. This started his love of all vintage military vehicles and his obsession with meticulous ground up restorations. He and his brother Larry, restored Jeeps, 6x6s, M37s, a 60" costal searchlight, and their favorite, a 1943 halftrack. Many of these were shown for years in parades, museums, car shows, and IMVPA gatherings of which he was one of the founding members.

Garry worked for the State of Idaho, US Forest Service, and the BLM. While with the BLM, he ran the tanker base at the Boise Airport for the Interagency Fire Center, seeing to fueling and filling tankers being sent out on fires. While there, he also designed and built fire suppression units for wildland fire trucks. His diverse talents didn't end there as he built a number of family homes along with his brothers and father doing everything from design to finish work. Garry was always available for support of any kind whether it was building, a mechanic issue, caretaking his folks, or entertaining his nieces, Lindsey, Kelly, and Brandi, or his nephew, Michael while they were young or in later years, their offspring.

Garry is survived by his identical twin Larry (Susan) a younger brother Earl (Janine), and the nieces, nephew, and their kiddos.

Garry, you will always be a huge part of our lives going forward even as you were while here.

We always parted with "I'll see you later." to which his response was usually, (with a mischievous grin,) "Not if I see you first!"

Well Unk, I guess we will just have to wait and see.
