Helen Sheirbon Obituary

Helen Miller Sheirbon Helen Miller Sheirbon passed away on Nov. 25 2008, at the age of 99 plus. Helen was born in Claremont, Mo. on April 15, 1909 to Albert and Amy Miller, at their family home. She was one of 5 children and the last one to survive. Her mother died when she was 13 and her father died when she was 18. She lived with her sister and husband Eva and Chester Bancroft. Helen's family moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1920 when she was in the fifth grade. She graduated Valedictorian of Emmett High in 1929. She moved back to Maryville, Mo. and went to Northwest Missouri College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in a country school in Iowa where she met Stanley Sheirbon. They were married Jan. 9, 1930 in Clarinda, Iowa. They farmed and later owned a grocery store in Yorktown, Iowa. In 1937 they moved back to Boise Idaho where Helen stayed home and raised her two sons Marvin and Lowell and daughter Kay. In 1945 she taught fifth-eighth grade at the old Maple Grove School which was on the corner of Maple Grove and Franklin. That year 1945-46 her third son Don was born. They moved to a farm in Kuna in 1952 and lived there until Stanley passed away in 1983, when she moved to Meridian. In 1963, she helped start the Meridian Friends Church. The first church service was held in their home in Kuna in 1963 then they moved to the American Legion hall in Meridian. She and another lady, Beulah Marks went out and found the church property on Pine Street, where the church is located today. Helen taught Sunday school for many years at Whitney Friends Church and Meridian Friends Church. She started the Meridian Friends church library, sponsored the youth group and also played the piano for church. She was a very gifted and avid reader and loved to crochet, knit, and paint. She lost her hearing at the age of 50 and later her eyesight with macular degeneration. She is survived by her three sons, Marvin (Lillian) Sheirbon of Kuna, Don (Margaret) Sheirbon of Boise and daughter Kay (Jack) Newell of Boise. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Todd Newell, Scott Newell, Dan Sheirbon, Rod Sheirbon, Jeff Sheirbon, Kip Sheirbon, Shon Sheirbon, and Heidi Lucido and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Stanley, son Lowell, sister Eva Bancroft, and brothers Sankee, Vern and Earl Miller.
