Boise, Idaho - James "Jet" Jude Smith, 71, of Boise, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family who he adored and cherished more than anything else in the world.
Jet was born on May 28, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up on the East Coast and graduated as a Captain from Benedictine High School in Richmond, Virginia where his basketball team won the state championship. He then attended Mount Saint Mary's College. When his parents moved to Boise, Idaho in 1970, he packed his bags and followed them out West on his motorcycle. In turn, he finished his degree in Political Science at Boise State University.
By trade, Jet was a home inspector and builder, but he was a cowboy at heart. He spent as much time as he could in the Idaho backcountry where he worked as a hunting guide and taught his children and grandchildren how to fish. He will always be remembered for his handiness, love of golf and adventurous spirit.
Jet was predeceased by his father, Joseph Smith, mother, Rita Smith, brother, Thomas Smith, and his daughter, Maureen Smith. He is survived by the love of his life, Gina Lockwood; his four children, Kristin Smith, Zachary (Suzanne Price) Smith, Karen (Jack) Barnwell and Steven Smith; his siblings, Patricia Challenger, Joseph (Kathleen) Smith, Theresa (Luis Urrutia) Smith and Mark Smith, as well as his six grandchildren.
Jet's life will be celebrated privately with friends and family.
