John Zapp Obituary
1938 - 2016
John Frederick Zapp, 78, of Boise, Idaho, passed away September 11, 2016 at Marquis at Cascadia Assisted Living.
John was born August 12, 1938 in Boise, Idaho to Carroll F. and Helen Blackinger Zapp.
He attended St. Mary's Grade School, Boise High School, University of Idaho, and received his teaching degree from Boise State University. Following college, he joined the Army where he served in Europe.
In 1971, he was married for 5 years to Sally Lau from Idaho Falls.
John enjoyed skiing in US and New Zealand. He traveled internationally, and spent the last 25 years in Turkey where he taught English as a second language. His faith in his religion was revitalized in Izmir, Turkey, assisting with Mass.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Carol Ann Shawver Garro.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Zapp of San Diego, 5 nieces and nephews, and 2 cousins.
A memorial will be held Monday, September 19th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Boise, Idaho.

Enjoyed skiing with John at Mount Hutt. The photo attached was John skiing on a crazy windy day at Hutt.

John Zapp taught me to ski at Round Hill, New Zealand. I remember him as a charismatic man, who helped ignite a love of skiing and life that continues today. For an eight year oldf Kiwi, he was an impossibly glamorous figure and a great skier. To the adult me, he was just a great teacher. Vale, sir. You won't remember me but I remember you.
