Kathleen Louise Manners Anderson

Kathleen Louise Manners Anderson died on September 30, 2011 due to pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband, Chuck Anderson of Boise; sister, Janet Ashcraft of Eugene, Oregon; Janet's daughters, Sarah and Arlene Ashcraft of Portland, Oregon; sister, Marilyn Chaplin and her husband, Mel, of Brentwood, California, and their children, Monica Chaplin of Clermont, Florida, and Jeff Chaplin of Larkspur, California, and Jeff's children, Kate and Drew Chaplin. Kathleen, or as many people knew her, "Kathy", grew up in Indianola, Iowa, graduating from Indianola High School in May of 1964. She has many Midwest fond memories such as her first job detasseling field corn, catching fireflies on a warm August night, and collecting cicada shells with enough to fill a grocery bag. In August, 1967, she graduated from Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri, with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education followed by teaching in Metuchen, New Jersey, and Patterson School District in Patterson, California. In 1974 Kathleen met her future husband, Charles "Chuck" F. Anderson. After their marriage on October 2, 1976, she and Chuck began hatching a plan to move to Idaho and "live off the land" she would like to smile slyly and say with a wink. In September of 1979, she and Chuck realized their dream of buying 10 acres of "wilderness" property in the Lolo Canyon on which to build a log cabin. Loading up two horses, two dogs, (no chickens yet) they headed for the property, sight unseen. They stayed for 21 years, living for 15 years without electric power hookup or running water. Kathy would tell you she loved those years, later writing a manuscript about it titled, "In the Shadow of Our Mountain". In January, 2001, they sold their cabin and moved to "civilization"--Boise! From 1991 to 2005, Kathleen worked for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, retiring after 14 years and having worked in the Kamiah, Grangeville, and Boise field offices. In Boise from 1995 to 2011, Kathleen worked for Carter Dental, P.A. right up until her diagnosis with cancer. No doubt she would still enjoy working at Carters with co-workers and patients to this day if her health permitted. A private family service is pending.
