Laura Hoshaw Obituary

Laura Alice Clark Hoshaw
1908 - 2014
Laura Alice Clark Hoshaw, age 105, beloved mother and grandmother died peacefully on December 17, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Mount Vernon, WA. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Parkview Christian Church, 201 W. Ustick Road, Meridian.
Laura was born on December 31, 1908 in Olathe, CO, near Montrose, to Charles and Louise Clark. When she was very young the family moved to Idaho where her parents ran a country store in tiny Peavey. Laura went by horseback to a one room school and then on to Filer High School. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1930 with a major in music and business administration. She was elected to Mortar Board and Spurs, and was a charter member of Beta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi and a member of the music honorary Sigma Alpha Iota.
Laura taught music in the Weiser school system and then studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She married Edward M. Hoshaw on October 15, 1930 and they lived in Emmett before moving to Boise in 1935 where they raised their two children.
Laura directed the Junior Choir at the First Christian Church on 9th and Franklin for many years and also sang in the Senior Choir. She taught piano lessons from her home to many Boise students. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished gardener. She hooked rugs and loved to knit, making mittens, socks, and beautiful Irish knit sweaters and afghans for the family, and in her later years more than 2000 baby caps for the newborn nursery at St Luke's Hospital. She enjoyed daily crosswords and learned to use the computer in her late 80s, sending emails until she was well over 100!
Laura is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, three nieces and a nephew. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hansen (Roger), her son Tom Hoshaw (Dottie) and her grandsons, Eric and Arne Hansen and Chris and Bo Hoshaw. She lived the full circle of life and is dearly loved and missed by us all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Parkview Christian Church, the St. Lukes Newborn Nursery, or the charity of choice.
