Marva Garn Stricklin
April 11, 1926 - November 22, 2021
Boise, Idaho - Marva Garn Stricklin was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on April 11, 1926 and passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home in Boise, Idaho on November 22, 2021. Marva was the last child born in a family of seven children to George Elmer Garn and Eliza Ann Bacon Garn. She grew up on the family farm with loving parents and siblings. Marva began her formal education at age six, attending McKinley School in Boise, Idaho. Thereafter she attended Boise Junior High School and Boise Senior High School. She loved art and music, and participated in Girls Glee Club performed in a school musical and sang in a trio with her sisters. As a teenager, Marva also volunteered as a Junior USO Hostess at Gowen Field. During high school she met Loren Stricklin, and on June 25, 1946 he and Marva were married in Meridian, Idaho at her family's residence. They initially lived in California, where Marva worked for the May Company in retail and also as an undercover agent for Rogers Associates in Los Angeles. The couple later returned to Boise to begin and raise their family. On their 64th Wedding Anniversary they were sealed in the Boise Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marva's life was a life of service. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Brownie Leader and a 4-H leader. Marva had many talents; her skills were evident in the beautiful clothing she sewed for her children, sweaters she knitted, and quilts she made, as well as foods she preserved. She always had beautiful flowers growing in her yard, an abundant vegetable garden, and fruit trees. She frequently served others by reaching out to extended family and church members – she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Another of her life experiences involved traveling to Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore. One of the later joys in her life was weekly attendance to the Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Philip Elmer Garn, Lester Bacon Garn, and Eldon Ward Garn; her four sisters, Breta Garn Field, Ila Garn Thomson, and Ruth Garn Lombardo; and her husband, Loren C. Stricklin. She is survived by her six children: Philip Curtney Stricklin (Leasa) of Meridian, Idaho; Marla Suzette Bier (Kevin) of Hockinson, Washington; Marlis Annette Gerber (Kenneth) of Boise, Idaho; Debra Kay Michels (Jeff) of Boise, Idaho; Kathryn Eve Richlin (Brad) of Powder Springs, Georgia; and Toinette Maxine Huston (Jack) of Union, Oregon, as well as fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
