Matthew Burton Obituary

Matthew Alan Burton was born on Oct. 21, 1968, in Santa Maria, CA to Ettamae and Gary Burton. He passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Boise, ID. Matthew moved to Burley, ID with his parents and older brother, Ken, when he was eleven months old so the boys could be near their grandparents. The Burton family then moved to Pocatello in 1974 where Matthew attended Grace Lutheran, Washington Elementary, Franklin Junior High, and Pocatello High School. Matt participated in football and wrestling at Pocatello High and graduated in 1986. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Idaho State University and obtained a BBA in Finance from the College of Business. Matt joined the National Guard during his college years and went to basic training in Fort Sill, OK. He was an honor graduate from Advanced Individualized Training in artillery fire direction. After ten years of service, Matt was honorably discharged. Matthew was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed long rides with his buddies. He won gold and silver medals in bicycling during the First Security Games. Matt enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing rugby, snowmobiling, and gardening. He was a top notch bowler and rolled a 299 in his Boise League. Matt was a gifted woodworker and potter, and his family and friends are proud to display his artistic creations. Matt met his perfect partner, Marreen Baker in Boise, and they were married on May 24, 2003. Matt's lifelong dream was to be a father, and on May 13, 2005, Matt and Marr were blessed with a little miracle, McKenna Jeannine and five years later on July 9, 2010, Maxton Lee completed the family. Matt's greatest joy was caring for his children; he was the most compassionate, loving father imaginable. Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Ettamae, who he dearly loved and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Marreen; children: McKenna and Max; father, Gary (Helen) Burton; older brother, Ken (Angela) Burton; nephews Anthony Bosquez (great niece Matilda Bosquez), Tyler Kratzke, and Christian Burton; sister-in-law, Colleen (Tony) Wonacott; nephew, Cody; niece, Kelsey; brother-in-law, Rob (Tanya) Baker; nephew, Zachary; niece, Gloria; mother and father-in-law Richard and Jeanie Baker and best friend, Gerrad Montgomery. A celebration of Matt's life will be held at Meridian Friends Church at 1021 W. Pine Ave. Meridian, ID on Thursday, July 19th at 1:00 p.m. In memory of Matt, contributions may be made to McKenna and Maxton's college fund. Remembrances may be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com Arrangements are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home.

I could count Matt as one of my best friends in High School. Growing up we would often spend nearly every waking minute together just hanging out. Even though we were close in school, we moved away and lost touch as time went on. I was glad I had the opportunity to reunite a couple years ago and see him again and meet Maureen and their new child. I looked up to Matt and he will always remind me of the person I want to be. The world will be a little less bright now that he's not here. My condolences to his family, and best wishes with the challenges ahead.

I worked with Matt at Canyon County and I was so saddened to hear of his passing. Matt was always willing to help his fellow co-workers and answer any questions or help solve any problems. He was even nice enough to bring us girls up front a little treat of some kind after the crazy assessment period to say thanks for all our help. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.

I only knew Matt for the year or so he worked for Gem County, but I found him to be an incredibly authentic human being. He genuinely cared about those he interacted with and sought the truth in all he did.

I worked with Matt at Canyon County. What a kind-hearted, witty, helpful, intelligent man. Even when he was ready to pull his hair out, he had a smile on his face. I remember his joy at becoming a father twice. Those of us who worked with him were blessed.

We were so sad to hear of Matt's death. We enjoyed knowing him as a boy and are sorry we had not seen much of him in later years. We know he meant a lot to him Grandma Dessenberger.
