Patricia Mahoney Obituary

Patricia Day Mahoney, "Patty"
December 7, 1941 - October 2, 2017
Patricia Day Mahoney, "Patty", 75, died suddenly in an automobile accident on Monday, October 2, 2017, in Coeur d'Alene Idaho.
Patty was born on December 7, 1941, in Jamestown, New York. She was the daughter of Hazel and Henry Day. She had three brothers, Ellis, Richard, and David. Patty attended Jamestown High School where she graduated in 1959. She then went on to attend the State University of New York at Geneseo, where she obtained her teaching-degree and graduated in 1963. After graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, Shane Mahoney, on June 20, 1964. Patty and Shane moved to South Bend, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois, while Shane attended graduate school. They then settled in Cheney, Washington where Shane was a professor at Eastern Washington University. Patty and Shane raised their three boys, Patrick, Kieran and Kevin, in Cheney. Patty taught grade school throughout all this time, retiring at the age of 62. Teaching was her passion and she loved educating others. It was what she did best. Even after retirement, she would teach her grandchildren reading and writing and always had special projects planned for them. In 2014, Patty and Shane celebrated their golden, 50th wedding anniversary. In 2015, they moved to a home they had built in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to be closer to their son and grandson and were very happy there.
Patty loved camping and hiking with her husband in Montana, and spent all the time she possibly could outdoors in nature. She was also an outstanding quilter and enjoyed crafting beautiful quilts that she would generously give to her family and friends. She loved her family more than anything and very much enjoyed spending time doing various activities with her five grandchildren including: baking, Lego building, and playing board games. Her laugh was one of a kind and could make anyone smile. Patty was a warm and inviting woman with a humble personality. She was an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother and touched the hearts of everyone she met with her wonderfully kind heart.
She is survived by her husband, Shane Mahoney; her three sons, Patrick Mahoney of Boise, Kieran Mahoney of Spokane Valley, and Kevin Mahoney of Coeur d'Alene; her five grandchildren, Meghan, Sheamus, Connor, Abby and Nolan; and her brothers, Ellis Day of Georgia, Richard Day of Honolulu, and David Day of Cheney.
A small, intimate wake will be held at their home in Coeur d'Alene on Saturday. Close friends and family will be attending.

Heartbreaking. She was such a feisty, deeply intelligent woman and a wonderful teacher. She made the third grade my favorite year at Betz Elementary.
