Paul Corddry Obituary

Paul Imlay Corddry
1936-2019
Paul Corddry of Naples, Florida passed away on July 1, 2019. Paul was born on September 13, 1936 in Snow Hill Maryland. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1958 and later received an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. Paul was the President of Ore-Ida Foods from 1977-1986 and then the Senior Vice President of the H.J. Heinz Company in Europe until his retirement in 1992. He served on the board of directors of several organizations including H.J. Heinz, Albertson's, Chairman of the American Frozen Food Institute, the American University in Cairo, the Corcoran Museum, Swarthmore College, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, and Artis-Naples. Paul married his wife Charlotte on June 30, 1962. They raised three children and have six grandchildren. After his family, some of Paul's greatest loves were food, art, travel and Gordon's gin. His favorite times were parties with the "Boise crowd" and lunches in Naples with the ROMEO's. Paul and Charlotte were avid art collectors. They enjoyed finding unique pieces, attending auctions, working with galleries and meeting artists. In 2016, they donated a significant portion of their collection to the Baker Museum at Artis-Naples. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Kathryn and Newell and brother Bob. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; children Laura Henry, Tim (and wife, Jessica) and John (and wife Amanda); grandchildren Charlotte Henry, Molly Henry, Jack, Ted, Thomas, and Kate; his sister Ellen Adkins George and numerous nieces and nephews.

I recently learned of Paul's death and am stunned to realize his vibrant spirit has been eclipsed. Paul's sharp wit and sense of humor paralleled his passion for the arts, both regionally and internationally. As one of the Boise crowd, I treasure the memories he inspired in those early days. May his wonderful life-force remain alive in his children.

Paul and I attended the same school from kindergarten to graduation on the 12 year plan. The last time we saw each other was for a class reunion. So sorry to hear of his passing. His mother and some of the cousins were good friends of my brother aand our family. Know he will be missed, and we wish for the family the best for the future. God Bless. Wanda Williams Gordy. Married John Gordy one of the twins.

Hard to believe that our good friend Paul is gone. We both enjoyed serving on the Board of the American University in Cairo. We were heavily involved with building the new campus. His leadership with Moataz of the capital campaign exceeded all expectations. We will remember the many days we had together in Naples and the trips we had with AUC.
Our deepest condolences to Charlotte and the family. May his memory be eternal.

What a shocking news! I am very sorry and deeply sad for the tragic loss of our dear Paul. Paul was a very close friend whom I have always cherished knowing him on both the personal and professional levels. He had such a unique character and outstanding traits that impress you the very first moment you get to know him. He was the one who invited me to join the Century Committee in 1995 and in 2 years I joined the board of the AUC as an active member. Since then, I was fortunate enough to work closely with him on many assignments specially when I was the Co-chair of the Capital Campaign. Throughout the years, I have witnessed how Paul was working hard with exceptional dedication and genuine passion to accomplish the best for the AUC. So many occasions have joined us and I always sensed Paul's awesome personality and the wonderful way he was dealing with everyone around him.My deepest condolences and most sincere sympathies to Charlotte and the whole family.May his soul rest in peace!Moataz Al-Alfi

Paul & I were Phi Kappa Psi fraternity brothers at Swarthmore
I visited with him at his Snow Hill home several times, and enjoyed
the Baltimore Bullet biscuits his mother and aunt serviced with each
fine meal. I visited with Paul in Chicago and was influenced to
get a MBA after my military service by his example. He was an intelligent, personable and determined young man. He was in consideration of a Rhodes scholarship at Swarthmore. We lost contact
after his marriage in 1962, but I was able to follow his success in the
media and from my sister who resides in Boise. I regret not seeing
him over the later years. My sympathy to Charlotte, their children
and friends.

On behalf of all of us at the American University in Cairo, I offer the most sincere condolences to Mrs. Charlotte Corddry and family on the loss of Paul. We in Cairo would like all Paul's loved ones in Naples and around the world to know that we remember him most fondly and in a very special way at this proud outpost of American education and culture in the heart of the Middle East, for his generosity in supporting AUC through many years. He carved a special niche among us as an active member of our Board of Trustees, particularly in the their historic decision to build a splendid new campus in New Cairo. Our new campus bears plaques in some of our most lovely locations that will commemorate Paul and his family in perpetuity. We are proud that AUC stands as living testimony to Paul Corddry's global vision and greatness of heart.

We hope that Mrs. Corddry and her family will take comfort in knowing that through AUC, Paul positively touched the lives of many thousands living around the world. We join in offering our deepest sympathies, along with our admiration for his living example.

Sincerely,

Francis J. Ricciardone

Paul and Charlotte loved to travel and explore the world and enjoy fine wines and cuisine. They often hosted their children to enjoy travels with them. I was happy to serve as their travel advisor since their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Gortner had introduced Paul and Charlotte to me over 20 years ago. Paul was a delight to work with and we all will miss his easy style and smile at Preferred Travel. Our sympathy to his family.

So sorry to hear of Paul's passing. Spent many childhood days playing stickball with Paul in Snow Hill. We also played locally with 3 others in a small dance band during high school, playing Glenn Miller tunes and 'the bunny hop', Paul on tenor sax and me on alto sax. Great guy! My sympathy to all of his family. Barry Peacock

Paul hired my husband Bill in 1974 and along with Bob Peterson and those who followed, made Ore Ida a great place to work where all were family. Thanks for those great years
