Rex Steiner

1949 - 2025

Rex G Steiner, 76, of Murphy, Idaho passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025. Born June 10, 1949, in Yuma, Arizona, and raised in Owyhee County, Rex was a Marine Corp Vietnam War veteran and a man of sharp wit, quiet solitude, and unmatched mechanical skill.

A master mechanic, Rex could quickly diagnose any vehicular ailment, and all the locals had a car, truck or machinery worked on by Rex at some point in time. He spent decades in his garage crafting solutions to problems others deemed insolvable. His garden, though, was his quiet masterpiece - rows of vibrant tomatoes, juicy melons, sprawling ground cherries and other produce thrived under his green thumb. His superb memory made him a remarkable historian of Oreana and Owyhee County. His dry, sometimes cynical humor recalling life's events left you laughing, and at times, with a raised eyebrow.

Rex found joy in the hum of his workshop, reading, prospecting, hiking the desert terrain, and feeding stray cats on his property. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors and sipping an occasional whiskey with friends at the local bar. His warmth for those he considered dear, and his stories vividly recalled from decades past - could light up a room.

He was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Dolores Marie Steiner, his parents Harold (Buddy) and Dorothy (Jean) Steiner, and sister who considered him a best friend, Linda Steiner Guest. In keeping with Rex's wishes, no formal service will be held.

Rex leaves behind a legacy of wit, skill, and quiet beauty - fixing cars, nurturing plants, and touching lives with his unforgettable presence.
