Richard Dean (Dick) Fisk
May 3, 1926 - September 9, 2016
Dick passed away at the age of 90 September 9, 2016 after a brief illness. A celebration of life and internment in the Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Dick was born in Caldwell, Idaho, to Ernest C. and Dora O. Fisk. He grew up in Payette, Idaho, and attended Payette High School where he excelled in sports. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 during WWII serving on the troop transport ship USS Bosque in the South Pacific. He was in the flotilla of ships in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrender ceremony took place on September 2, 1945.
He married Barbara Elaine Grammar on June 21, 1947. They lived in Corvallis, Oregon, while he obtained his BS in Forestry. Barbara and Dick were married for 55 years before her death in 2002.
Upon returning to Boise, Dick worked for Idaho Power for 30 years retiring as the Insurance and Pension Fund manager. While there, he sang in the Choirelectrics and was on the company's basketball team.
Dick was an accomplished bowler, a great dancer, a mean hand-and-foot card player, and an avid golfer. He was a member of the "Geezers" at Plantation Country Club, which brought him much pleasure as well as pain - as all golfers know too well.
Service was an important part of Dick's life. He was a Mason for 65 years achieving Master Mason in 1951. He was involved in Junior Achievement and volunteered for many years at the St. Alphonsus Festival of Trees. However, his real passion was serving the International Association of Lions Clubs where he was a District Governor and was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship award for exemplary service to the club and community.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his companion of 14 years, Ann Bessee.
He is survived by three daughters: Valerie Fisk, Las Vegas, NV; Kit (Bill) Bienapfl, Boise; and, Deana (Gary) Thornton, Hurricane, UT. Grandchildren Rick (Amanda) Arp, Boise; Philip (Lauren) Burgess, Castle Pines, CO; Brian (Tyra) Burgess, Boise; and, Tiffany (Pete) Freeman, Las Vegas, NV. Great-grandchildren Cameron Arp, Breanna Arp, Sean Burgess, Akasha Burgess, and Ashtyn Burgess all of Boise, and Gabrielle and Kona Burgess, Castle Pines, CO. Great-great-grandson Bradley Arp, Boise.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Idaho Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, 1090 N. Cole Road, Boise, ID 83704. Memorials and messages can be left at the Cremation Society of Idaho website,
