Richard Sheppard Obituary
Richard "Dick" Sheppard
May 28, 1936 - June 14, 2024
Liberty Lake, Washington - Richard E. "Dick" Sheppard, 88, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 14, 2024.
Dick was born on May 28, 1936 in Payson, Utah to Eugene and Ida Sheppard. He was the second in a family of five children. The family relocated Idaho and settled in Hailey where his dad worked in the Triumph Mine. During these early years, Dick and his brother Rusty frequently went hunting and fishing with their dad. It was through these experiences that Dick developed a lifelong love of nature and family time which he passed on to his own children.
In 1944, Dick and family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where he eventually graduated from high school. As a teen, Dick worked at the local golf course and found his calling in the sport. He received a golf scholarship to the University of Idaho where both he and his brother Rusty were standouts on the golf team. Dick remains one of only two golfers inducted into the U of I Athletic Hall of Fame and holds the record on the U of I course as it existed in the late 1950's. Over the course of his lifetime, Dick shot four holes-in-one.
Dick joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house at the U of I where, in exchange for room and board, he kept the coal furnace going through the cold Moscow nights. It was at the U of I that he courted and fell in love with his "Delta Sweetheart," Linda Fox. Within six months, Dick gave Linda his Delt fraternity pin, and they were married the following summer. Dick and Linda then moved to San Francisco where he obtained his CPA license and they had their first daughter, Catherine Carrie.
The family moved to Boise, Idaho in 1963 where Dick worked as a CPA and their second daughter, Kristina, was born. Dick and family eventually settled in Caldwell, Idaho where they lived for the next 40 years. It was in Caldwell that they welcomed their two sons, Rick, and Steve.
Dick was a CPA by trade and an entrepreneur at heart. He worked in Caldwell as a CPA for four years until he and a friend started I.D.E.A., Inc., a printing and design firm. By the time the company sold in 2008, it employed nearly 100 people and was well known throughout the Treasure Valley.
In their retirement years, Dick and Linda enjoyed a vacation home in New Meadows, Idaho on the Meadow Creek Golf Resort where family and friends were always welcome. They also made many memories traveling to places like Thailand, Peru, Scotland, Mexico, Hawaii, and California.
Dick blessed everyone he knew with his gentle love and kindness as well as his wisdom and integrity. Through his last days, his only concern was that Linda would be taken care of. He was a wonderful father and mentor and his children credit their successes, both in life and business, largely to him and to his lifelong partnership with Linda. Dick will also be remembered by his grandchildren as their kind and gentle "Papa Dick." He will be greatly missed by his Delta Sweetheart, Linda, his children Carrie (Jim), Kristina, Rick (Becky), and Steve, his 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his sister Mary (Carl), many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A memorial service will be held on July 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Legacy Church in Liberty Lake, WA.
