Portland, Oregon - Longtime Boise resident Rinaldo "Monte" Monteferrante passed away on July 26, 2022 in Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Elvira, his 4 children, Giovanni, Ronald, Michael, Suzanne, and his 9 grandchildren.
Born in 1931, in Casacalenda, Italy, Rinaldo emigrated to Canada as a 20-year-old, knowing little English. He was recruited off the docks to work on the railroad, and thus started a six-decade career within the railroad industry. A laborer, foreman, Project Superintendent, Program Manager, and Consultant, Rinaldo worked on all kinds of railroads and rail transportation systems worldwide. He worked for major companies in the field such as Mannix, Railco, Morrison-Knudsen, and as a consultant to many others in his later years. He was the Track Superintendent of the team in 1968 that set a world record for laying 4.35 miles of track in a single day in Western Australia, one of his proudest accomplishments.
Monte loved fishing, golfing, and a glass or two of wine. He was known for his delicious spaghetti sauce recipe and loved socializing with family and friends by hosting dinners at his home, telling jokes and sharing stories. He truly loved people and touched their lives through his activities and with his gregarious personality.
