Robert Austin Obituary

Robert Luciene Austin
November 6, 1944 - January 23, 2019
Robert Luciene Austin left this earth too soon on the evening of January 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Pancreatic cancer took his life after a short but valiant battle to the end.
Robert was born on November 6, 1944, the first child and only son of Robert Herbert and Gladys Fairbourne Austin. Later five younger siblings (all sisters) joined the family, and Robert was a fun, loving, teasing, hilarious, protective brother. His childhood was spent in Boise, then on a farm in Meridian Idaho where he learned the value and necessity of hard work. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1963, attended Boise Junior College and later served as an officer with the Mt. Home and then Garden City/Boise Police Departments. He was a member of the Idaho National Guard for 13.5 years.
In 1974 Bob met a cute waitress named Cheryl Ryals, and she is his soul mate. They married in 1977. Bob and Cheryl made their home together in Fairbanks, Alaska for 35 years where he worked for Loomis Armored Car as Branch Manager in Fairbanks for 26 years. Later he worked for Fred Meyer. They returned to Idaho in 2013, enjoying retirement and traveling Canada and the USA in their motor home. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and drew close to his Savior toward the end of his life. Bob had a great sense of humor and kept us all laughing.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl, his children David (Amber) Austin and Brandy (Duane) Nickerson, by three grandchildren, Breanna Austin, Haley Nickerson and Aidan Austin, and by one great-grandchild due in March. He is also survived by his five sisters.
Robert is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ryals, and by his parents.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (located at 11288 Roosevelt Ave. Nampa, Idaho) at 11:00 a.m. Friends may greet the family at the church starting at 10:15 am.

Cheryl,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You and Bob were stalwart members of our Fairbanks neighborhood, which has not been as much fun without you. I always enjoyed a spirited chat with the two of you about local goings-on. I am glad you enjoyed Idaho together, though. Your new neighbors are lucky you landed there. Please give our regards to the "kids", especially to Brandy and her young Breanna who used to pop through the hedge now and then for a visit.
Best wishes,
Jamie Callahan (and Dan)
