Ruby Lacy Obituary

Ruby Eloise Lacy, 85, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at 4 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel. Burial will be held in Nashville, Tenn. Ruby was born May 22, 1923 in Cedartown, Ga. to Melvin Stanley Maner and Sallie Inez Coalson. She was a longtime resident of Chattanooga and Nashville, Tenn. before moving to Idaho in 2004. She married James Lacy in December 1973 in Chattanooga, Tenn.; she was previously married to John David Goggins and Dustin Mabron Warren. She was employed by Sweetwater Carpet of Ringgold, GA and Roper Manufacturing of Chattanooga, Tenn. for the majority of her working years. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers and plantings. An avid reader, Scrabble player, crossword puzzle solver, and accomplished seamstress and crocheter, she produced many lovely items for herself, friends, and family over the years. She attended and was a dedicated member of several Christian and Baptist churches in Georgia and Tennessee, the last being Una Baptist Church of Nashville. She also volunteered as a Gray Lady at hospitals in Chattanooga. Ruby set a positive example to her family and grandchildren of the importance of education by earning her GED as an adult. She is survived by her son, David Goggins of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren, Amanda Cleere of Oregon, Wis., Emily Hessing, Daniel Goggins and Joshua Goggins of Meridian, Idaho, Julie Klar of Antioch, Tenn., Lisa Slade of Smyrna, Tenn.; and 11 great-grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, James Lacy; son, Fred Goggins; and daughter, Sallie Lynn Warren. She had a lively personality and made friends easily and will be missed dearly by family and friends.

I worked for years with Ruby's son Fred. Ruby was a wonderful woman who treated everyone she met like they were her family. I am proud and honored to have known such an inspirational woman. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Ruby was a wonderful friend to me. I met Ruby when Fred and I started college. From the very beginning, she treated me just like family and I will always love her for that. Through good times and bad, I could always depend on her love and support. I will miss her very much.
