Ruth Solosabal Obituary

Ruth Solosabal, 89, of Glenns Ferry, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at a Boise hospital. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Glenns Ferry, on Monday, May 4, 2009, with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Ruth, as she was known to friends and Grandma and Amuma to family was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Sunnyside, Utah. She was the daughter of Rulon and Helen Johnson. She moved with her family to Glenns Ferry in 1922. She attended Glenns Ferry public schools, graduating in 1938 in the first graduating class of the then new high school. She attended cosmetology school and later telegraphy school and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher. She married Louis Solosabal on April 14, 1944. They farmed and ranched south of Glenns Ferry. She was an active member of the Glenns Ferry Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, all of her life and until her death was the longest member on record. In the church she served in the presidencies of the Relief Society, Young Womans and Primary. She was also a visit teacher for many years. She was active in the community, a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the PTA organization while her children were in school. Her main love and concern was her family. She also loved to quilt. If you could have laid her stitches end to end they would have circled the world three times. Ruth is survived by her family which includes: her son John R. and his wife Allene Solosabal of Glenns Ferry; her daughter Donna Lou and her husband Dennis Smith of Glenns Ferry, eight grandsons; eight granddaughters; 28 great-granddaughters; 23 great-grandsons; three sisters, Armrell Christensen, Velma Stout and Geraldine Jones and one brother in-law John Fahrer. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Solosabal, her parents, two sisters Jane Golden and Rula Fahrer and a great-grandson. We will love and miss her. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Primary Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 58249, Salt Lake City, UT 84158-0249.
