Sondra McDermott Anderson

Meridian, Idaho - Sondra (McDermott) Anderson, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Meridian, Idaho on February 5, 2025.

She was born on October 19, 1942, the daughter of LeRoy and Doris Lindley. Sondra spent her formative years in the Arbon Valley and American Falls, Idaho, where she graduated high school in 1960.

Sondra met Dennis McDermott while attending high school. They were married in 1961 and had two children. Although divorced in 1983, Sondra and Dennis remained close and embodied ideal co-parenting before there was even a name for it, spending holidays, birthdays, all other special occasions and even ordinary days together in the interest of maintaining a sense of family for their children.

Sondra entered the workforce at a time when it was not yet the norm for women to do so. After a brief stint in real estate, she opened her own State Farm Insurance agency in Twin Falls Idaho, building it from scratch through cold calls, word of mouth and sheer determination into a successful office that she later sold, but that is still in operation.

In 1993, Sondra married Eldon Anderson. They settled in Meridian and spent their retirement years doing what they loved - spending time with grandkids, friends and family, traveling, going to movies and dining out. Sondra re-engaged with her deep appreciation for art and became an accomplished painter who especially found joy in watercolors and calligraphy. Her creativity and artistic spirit were evident in everything she did.

Sondra is survived by her husband, Eldon Anderson; her children, Randi McDermott (Ed Walker) and Ryan McDermott (Trina); her step-son, Casey Anderson; her brother, Rand Lindley (Koni); and her beloved grandchildren: Davis, Ruby, Dylan, Katie, Saige and Regan.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Louise Chapel at Touchmark in Meadow Lake Village in Meridian.
