I knew the McDowells as a child and I tell the story of Steven losing fishing poles to a mysterious fish named Thunder. I was thinking of the McDowells while telling of ole Thunder and google sadly led me here I sure hope Steven's made peace with that fish.:-)

Steve and his family were such an important fixture in my youth. Countless memories flood back upon hearing the sad news of his passing. Our unique friendship that crossed the city boundries of school districts, our summers spent playing baseball, the friends we made and shared, our birthdays only a day apart and the times we celebrated together. Memories of a great friend and great times shared. My sincerest condolences to all his family and friends.

I had the great pleasure of calling Steve my friend. Since 7th grade, Steve was always there for his pals. One of the most giving people I have ever known. Even with long periods in our life that we would not see each other, he was always ready with an offer to help. He was loved and many and will be missed by all. Rest in peace my friend.

Steve and I were good friends when we were young, and we spent many hours playing Cowboys and Indians in the neighborhood, and watching Westerns in his family's basement. My condolences to the McDowell family.

Steve will be surely missed. I enjoyed playing basketball with him in high school and he was a solid individual, on and off the court. He was always willing to join in a 'pick-up' game and had a smooth jump shot from the corner. My condolences to Steve's family during this difficult time and my thoughts & prayers are with you.

This is just so sad... *sigh* I had the pleasure of vicariously dating Steve as he and my then boyfriend 'Fisch' were good friends. He made me laugh - often. He was an easy person to be around or to speak with. And he threw a mean dart. Funniest memory was learning about a new time zone: Steve McDowell Time. Best time was a trip to Jackpot. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May Steve surely rest in peace.

I'm so sorry to here this sad news. Steve was a great friend and he will be missed by all his dart and pool buddies. I remember the time we were all heading out to throw darts. I took the time and put his back axle on blocks as we got ready to leave we watch him confused and about to burn his tranny up. We had to the poor guy out.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Steve was a childhood friend who lived several houses down from me. He was always a lot of fun, and very kind to others. He will always be in my memories of my childhood. I lost track of him after HS and often wondered what he was up to. My condolences to the McDowell family. You had a good son.

I could list countless memories of Steve -- this morning one keeps coming to mind- In the ninth grade we were playing basketball at lunch - there were about 6 of us playing...Two other kids came over and wanted to play - being less skilled ...and maybe not as popular, some of us scorned and ridiculed them....I remember Steve gathering us around (as the leader that he was) and saying "guys- they just want to play some ball like the rest of us"- as they began to play Steve made sure to pass them the ball and compliment their efforts. That story still holds such a great lesson in my life and I have shared it with my boys as I try to teach them to be people of character.
