Teunis Van Manen Obituary

Teunis Gysbert "Tony" Van Manen Teunis Gysbert "Tony" Van Manen, 82, of Nampa, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 and he is now safely home in Heaven. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th. Ave. So. in Nampa. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. The family will greet loved ones and friends from 7 - 9 Tuesday evening at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa, 466-3545. Teunis "Tony" Gysbert Van Manen was born March 11, 1925, on the Bakenhof, south of Arnhem, The Netherlands. A twin brother died at birth. He attended grammar school through the eighth grade, and at the age of 14 began agricultural trade school until 1944, when his school was destroyed in the Second World War. During Christmas 1943, he began a 64-year romance with Truitje Baars. They married on July 17, 1947, and settled down with Tony's mother and aunt, soon welcoming their first child John in Sept. 1948. They entered the United States at Ellis Island on July 19, 1949. The young immigrants settled outside Manassas, Va., where Tony managed a 500-acre farm. Their son Adrian was born there in Jan. of 1950. After two years in Virginia, the family moved to Michigan in 1951, where Tony worked at Keeler Brass, and later managed a dairy. Daughters Betty (1952) and Willy (1954) were born in Grand Rapids. In 1955, the Van Manens moved to Ontario, Calif., where in 1960, their daughter Virginia was born. Tony had his own business there as a calf buyer at the local dairy farms. In Jan. of 1962, Tony found and fell in love with a 40-acre dairy just east of Nampa, where he would farm until his retirement in 1990. His wife and five children joined him on the dairy in March of 1962. In Sept. of 1964, they welcomed their last child Rachel into the world. After his retirement, Tony and Trudy moved into town, where they enjoyed the last 18 years together. Tony loved family, horses, classical music, dairy farms, America, and history. His greatest love was Christ his Savior. Tony was a member of the United Reformed Church and, in recent days, was attending Centennial Baptist Church in Caldwell, pastored by his grandson and namesake Tony Van Manen. Tony is survived by his wife of 60 years, Trudy, of Nampa; six children and their spouses-John and Debi Van Manen of Nampa; Adrian and Bonnie Van Manen of Oklahoma City; Betty and Rob King of Nampa; Willy and Lewis Dean of Nampa; Jeanie and Jon Haupt of Boise, and Rachel and Garrett Miyauchi of Nampa, 22 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in Holland. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and two infant sons. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Gideon's International (P.O. Box 173, Nampa, ID 83653), the Tony and Trudy Van Manen History Scholarship Fund in care of Northwest Nazarene University (623 Holly St., Nampa, ID 83686), or a favorite charity.

Dear family, Tante Trudy and al my cousins.
Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.

I'll think of you all.
Love, Annelies
