Vernon Collier Weisgarber
age 90, died Tuesday June 4, 2013 at The Laurels of Massillon. Born March 16, 1923 to Lloyd and Florence (Collier) Weisgarber, Vernon has lived in Massillon his entire life with his wife of 63 years, Illa June (Simon). Surviving also are adult children and grandchildren, Sherrie, Ray, and Matthew Zagorc of Euclid, Terry Weisgarber of North Royalton, Kathy Weisgarber of Canton; and grandson, Joshua Weisgarber of Massillon.
Vernon was a graduate of Washingtin High School Class of 1943 (70th reunion this summer) and took great pride in the fact that he played football for Paul Brown and was Captain of the WHS basketball team before he enlisted in the Army and served in the United States and Italy during WWII. A Captain on the Massillon City Fire Department for 26 years (1950-1976), Vernon also worked on his off days as a salesperson at Demmer Hardware and as custodian at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Vernon was a 42-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #190 and also Wesley United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of The Laurels of Massillon, A Better Home Health Care, Aultman Hospital, Woodlawn, Dr Jyothi Gudla and her office staff, and caring family, friends, and neighbors in Massillon and Euclid for their prayers and support. Calling hours will be Friday, June 7 from 5-8 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home at 26 2nd St. N.E., Massillon, OH 44646. Cremation will take place and a private service and burial will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Vernon's name to Washington H.S.
