Todd Cantlay Obituary

Todd Barnes Cantlay

Pendleton, SC

Todd Barnes Cantlay, age 53, of Pendleton, SC passed away on November 13th, 2015 at home.

Born January 31st, 1962 in Somerville, NJ, Todd attended Proctor Academy, the University of Tampa and the University of South Florida. He was a very charismatic father who could tell a joke to just about anyone. He resided in the Tampa Bay area, and was the Tennis Professional at the world renowned hotel The Don Cesar on St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. He had a passion and a love for the guitar, which he played almost every day. His photography skills were impeccable, ranging from landscapes to family photos. He was a man who could do almost anything with his hands, especially carpentry, automotive work, and building model cars that you would swear were real cars shrunken down. His trivia knowledge shined whenever he watched Jeopardy, answering almost every question correctly, no matter the category. Todd also had the gift of being a great cook, known for his family famous "Twice Baked Potatoes" and incredible "Todd Steak Marinade". Todd moved to South Carolina in 2007, and purchased the historic McAlister House in Pendleton, where he fell in love with the countryside and his life as a gentleman farmer surrounded by nature and horses. He dearly loved his sons who were his whole world to him. Todd was a generous and considerate friend and neighbor.

He is survived by his two sons Blake C. and Brooks R. Cantlay; his father, Russell C. Cantlay; stepmother Karen; sister Donna C. Miller and husband Hasbrouck; brothers, Douglas M. Cantlay and wife Suzanne and James A. Cantlay and wife Lilias; stepsister Chenoa J. Del Rosso; six nieces and nephews, Fraser and Joshua Martinez, Hasbrouck B. and Grayson A. Miller, Alexandra K. and Andrea M. Cantlay, Meyline Perry-Del Rosso and one great nephew Elliot H. Martinez. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

To Brooks: Even though I only met your dad in one meeting, he left an impression. I could tell how much he cared about you and how proud he was of you and your accomplishments. I cannot imagine how tough it is for you to have lost him in such an awful manner and then had to move. I pray for you often that God will give you the strength to go on and that your broken heart will mend a tiny bit each day. I hope you are making it OK.

I know there are no words but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We shared a love of horses. He would often call and share stories of their latest antics. He always spoke of his sons and how much he loved them. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed. Our love and deepest sympathy to all of his family.

My deepest sympathies to Todd's Family. It was with great sadness that many of his classmates from grade school read and shared his obituary in the Bernardsville News. His family is in my thoughts and prayers,

Our deepest condolences to the entire Cantlay family. We knew Todd as a wonderful personality and great guitarist. He was a very good friend and customer of Stevie B's Total Guitar in downtown St Petersburg Fl. We always had so much fun joking around with "Antleg" as we called him. He often spoke proudly of his sons who were his life and passion. May you "Rock on" on the Stairway to heaven Todd. RIP

Todd was a wonderful person who was a dear friend of ours for nearly 40 years. Laurie and I had just spoke to him the night before his passing and his spirits were high, always happy and we would talk about the good ole days. We worked in the hospitality industry together back in the days of Victoria Station - Dale Manry / TGI Fridays in Hyde Park and later, the Don Cesar.

We pray for his family and friends, knowing that the world will not be the same without Todd.

He touched so many hearts with his kind and giving ways.

We will always love you Todd!
