Vera Harris Obituary
Vera Harris
Anderson, SC
Vera Nell Weaver Harris, a lifelong resident of Anderson SC, passed away January 28th in Atlanta from complications of influenza. Mrs Harris was born September 26, 1939 to Mr. George Weaver, and his wife Annie Brown Weaver. She was the youngest of four sisters. Violet (Robert Muse), passed away in 2013. Johnnie Grace (Earl Heaton), passed away in 2011. Lucille (William Tribble) most recently passed in 2015. Vera adored her sisters, and missed them tremendously. But whom she missed the most was quite clear to anyone who knew her. Vera's heart broke when her beloved husband of over 50yrs, Louis Richard Harris (Uncle Dick), passed in August of 2016. As with all of her sisters, Vera was fortunate of have found a great love early in her life and was blessed to have held it in covenant til death did do them part. She was the last of the "Weaver Girls," and although she did not have children, she loved & adored all of her nieces & her nephews, both Weaver & Harris. Lucille's daughters Kim (Warren) Phillips of Charleston, Robin (Jack) McCarthy of Jacksonville Florida, and Heidi (Dino) Christopher of Augusta were loved for the beautiful families they created as a legacy to the Weaver Girls. Johnnie Grace's son Daniel Heaton of Columbus Ohio was a topic of much boasting. His work in theater & communications at Capital University was a source of so much pride & discussion. Pamela, Violet's daughter, and her husband Pete were a comfort to Vera after Uncle Dick had passed away. Bryan (Nicki) Harris, of Birmingham is left to carry on the steadfast Harris name. Pamela White (Shane), also of Birmingham was always a delight to Vera, always able to bring smiles & laughter. Aside from her adored family, Vera had an extended family in the members of the SC Women's Bowling Association. She began bowling in 1969, and was active in all areas of the association, from the local level, state level and even participating nationally in the organization leadership. Organizing the state wide tournament, before the widespread use of computer programs, Vera was a linchpin for accomplishing & maintaining order. She served the Association as long time secretary, as well participating in almost every other governing aspect of the Board. One of her proudest moments was her induction into the Hall of Fame for her tireless work. But these bowling ladies were not just a "co-workers." These were also her sisters from other mothers. Vera said many times, she was glad they didn't have camera phones & social media back in "her day." Unfortunately, many of these ladies have preceded Vera in their reward, but Betty Winchester & Kay Binford were loyal friends, separated by distance yet connected by cell phone. Vera's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Centerville Baptist Church community. Heartfelt thanks to Pastor Robbie Smith, the Baptist Women's Union, Mr Steve Stowe, former Pastor Zane Talley and his lovely wife Helen for all the support & fellowship extended to Vera & Dick. The church family was FAMILY while relatives were physically distant; may God's blessings flow to you as you richly shared with the Harris family.
