Verna Osteen Obituary
Verna Craft Osteen, 91, of 2006 Hunter Dr., died peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2007. She was the beloved wife of Harry Montague Osteen. They were married for 69 years, having wed on November 9, 1937 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Anderson.Born in Anderson on March 15, 1916 to the late Columbus and Nellie Patterson Craft, she graduated from Anderson Girls High School where she lettered in three sports and was a class officer. A faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Mary O. Holler Bible Class for 69 years and also was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She believed strongly in community volunteerism, working for Meals on Wheels, as a member of Outreach Entertainers, volunteer Supervisor for the Anderson Recreation Center Park, sponsor of the Sub-Deb girls' high school sorority and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also taught ballroom dancing with her husband Harry for many years on a volunteer basis. Mrs. Osteen enjoyed playing the piano, playing cards and was a founding member of the Carousel Social Club. She also enjoyed helping her husband operate the family business. Mrs. Osteen dedicated her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She measured her success by their successes. She is survived by her husband, Harry; two sons: Harry Montague Osteen, Jr. and his wife, Mary Drayton Osteen of Augusta and Joseph Marion Osteen and his wife, Paula Polk Osteen of Atlanta; four grandchildren: Mary Gregorie Osteen Joseph and her husband, David, Drayton Montague Osteen, Cassie Osteen Little and her husband Jeffrey, and Amanda Elaine Osteen; three great grandchildren: Mary Gregorie Joseph, Anne Beatty Joseph and Paul Mason Little.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Horace Craft.Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, March 21 at St. John's United Methodist Church with Dr. William R. Childs officiating. Burial will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, 401 N.
