Mr. and Mrs. Barnes and Adam...
I heard the sad news from a mutual friend at WSOC. Curtis and I started there the same day in 1977 and I always considered him a dear friend. We also had the fortune to work together in Atlanta. Even though we had lost contact in recent years, I thought of him often. I will truly miss Curtis and be thankful for our years of fellowship together. Friends like him do not come along often. Know that I will have you in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Mr & Mrs Adam Barnes,
A lost of family is always hard to swallow, but God always knows best. I am thankful to have had a wonderful cousin like Curtis "Gene". I am thankful to God for allowing me to share in the celebration and homegoing service. May the God of all comfort continue to bless and keep you during this time and the days ahead.

Curtis and I use to walk to school together, when he moved to Kannapolis to live with his grandparents, at A.L. Brown during our his senior year. Curtis was a very humble person with a good sense of humor, we were talking about him in October when the class of 1976 celebrated turning 50 years old. I just happened to be in Kannapolis for Christmas and saw the obit.

To Uncle Adam & Aunt Adelaide:
My prayers are with you during this time. I will always remember Gene's big smile when he would tell me to come and give him a hug looking just like Aunt Marie. May God bless and strengthen you.

Curtis to knowyou was our pleasure as a friend; but that grew into love as a family. You will always be in our hearts. We will always have the memory of the Kentucky Derby and Belinda's flip-flops going flap, flap, flap across the Blue Grass lawn. We love you Curtis and always will. Our heart felt sympathy to the Barnes Family.

To my cousin Gene, one of my fondest memories was when as young kids we got lost in the mountians with Randy Where grandady Barnes worked. We thought we would never be found and the embarassment of finally being found by a troop of girlscouts. Rest in peace my cousin and know that you will be missed but, there is solice in knowing that you are with Charles, Michael, Randy, Shirley, Donnie, Momma and Daddy Barnes and they were there waiting for you to come home. Luv u always cuz..........SM

In memory of Curtis,

My memories of Curtis are full of fondness and love. Thanks Curtis. I met Curtis through my sister, Belinda, he was just a kind loving fun person. Many memories are held in my mind of him coming to the house in Kingsbay GA and Charleston SC to share fun and precious times with me, my husband Lawrence, and our Son Xavier. He was God given to our family and will be sorely missed. To the Parents of Curtis; Though you never knew us (Belinda's sister) Curtis' living was not in vain. As the song would say "May the work I've done, speak for me & Is my living in vain". I can truly say that the blessings that he gave to our lives, his living was certianally not in vain. We plan, if it is God's will to travel from South Carolina for his home going.

To the family of Curtis Barnes:
Thank you for the time you allowed this special man to be a part of our lives. He was selected to be my middle daughters godfather and has now passed on to be with our heavenly Father. No one knows the day nor the hour when we must pass this life, but I thank God that I was able to meet such a generous man who was willing to share everything he had. To Mr. and Mrs. Barnes if you need anything contact my mom(Joan) or my sister(Belinda) and let me know.May God comfort you during your time of grief.
