Darrell Franklin Helms CONCORD Darrell Franklin Helms, 50, of Concord, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center NE with his mother by his side. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Don Burleyson, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, 3006 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kannapolis. There will be a 30 minute state. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Concord. Darrell was born in Cabarrus County on Feb. 18, 1962. He attended Concord City Schools. He was active in football, basketball, baseball and track during his school years and he loved drawing and woodworking. Mr. Helms was formerly employed in construction. He is survived by his parents, Howard Franklin and Gail Mauldin Helms; sisters, Mary Denise Helms and Angela Helms Joyner, her husband, Scott and their son, Chase; his children, Michael, Heather, Cody and Jared.
