Earnest Mitchell Sr.

KANNAPOLIS - Mr. Earnest Mitchell Sr., 72, of 8590 Dogwood Drive, Kannapolis, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. The service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010, at New Life Baptist Church, with Pastor Chiffie Tomlin Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Rutherford Memorial Cemetery in Concord. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. He was born on July 7, 1937, in Iredell County, N.C. He was the son of the late Earnest Mitchell and Mamie Lou Sturgis Mitchell. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Steele Mitchell, of the home; six daughters, Terry M. Moody (James), Lori M. Rushmeyer, Cathy L. Mitchell, Carrie M. Springs (William), all of Kannapolis, Paula Mitchell, of Concord, and Michelle M. Heaggins (Marvin), of Davidson; two sons, Earnest Mitchell Jr. (Fannie), of Charlotte and Antonio Mitchell (Wanda), of Kannapolis; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Carrie Liverman, of Kannapolis; two sisters, Alberta Ricks (Leroy) and Peggy Powell (Robert), both of Mooresville; two brothers, Billy Ray Sturgis and Tommy Gene Sturgis (Pamela), both of Kannapolis; foster daughter, Lois Mitchell (Scott), of Kannapolis; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
