Fred W. Carter
July 14, 1937 - November 5, 2025
Fred W. Carter, 88, of Rockwell, NC, passed away peacefully at The Greens on November 5, 2025. He was known for his kind heart, smile, and the way he made anyone feel welcome. Born on July 14, 1937, in Rowan County to the late George Carter & Nell Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Carter; his brother, John Carter; sister, Kathleen Stirewalt; and niece, Shirley Esquer.
Fred graduated from Landis High School in 1956. He worked for Cannon Mills for a number of years and retired from J.L. McDaniel & Co. as a Maintenance Technician. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge.
Fred was a loving and friendly man who brought joy to everyone he met. He had a deep love for music and spent many hours playing guitar and singing with his friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Fred was known for his creativity and often hand-making collectible items for friends and family. He also loved going to the mountains.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at The Greens & Atrium Hospice for their compassion and support. We would also like to thank all the friends and family members who have been by his side, praying and visiting with him.
Left to cherish his memory are Kim (James) Maltba, who was like a daughter to him, and her sons, Brandon and Ryan Maltba, who were like his own grandsons. He also leaves behind special nieces and nephews who held a very dear place in his heart, Todd and Jill Sirewalt, Lana and Dennis Hartley, Dale and Becky Stirewalt, Tony and Linda Stirewalt, Rodney and Louanne Stirewalt, Juanita and Bill Plyler.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the Northcrest Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Randall Ritchie officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
