KANNAPOLIS - Mr. James Edward Outen Sr., 80, of 106 Bryan St., died Tuesday April 10, 2007, at Magnolia Health Care, Asheville, after four years of declining health. Mr. Outen was born May 17, 1926, in Columbia, S.C., to the late Louise Chestnut Outen Debose and the late Leslie Outen. He was educated in the public schools of Cabarrus County. He was a retired Construction Worker and was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Outen attended Marable Memorial AME Zion Church, Kannapolis. He is survived by his wife, Senella Curry Outen of the home; son, James Edward Outen Jr. (Gloria), London England; daughter, Lydia L. Outen of the home; brothers, Thomas Parks of El Paso, Texas, Junior Parks of Baltimore and Theodore Outen of Columbia, S. C.; sisters, Margaret Parks and Minnie Bell Gilbert both of Baltimore and Joanne Young of Gastonia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Noble and Kelsey's A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Dr. Clary L. Phelps, officiating.
There will be a visitation 30 minutes prior to the funeral on Sunday in the Chapel. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the U.S. National Cemetery, Brenner Avenue, with military rites by the Salisbury Honor Guard.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 106 Bryan St., Kannapolis.
