James Watson Obituary
July 10, 1945 - January 28, 2022
James S. Watson of Harrisburg, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2022.
Jim, an only child, was born July 10, 1945, to Herman and Louise Watson. Originally from Akron, Ohio, he resided in North Carolina for over 40 years. 27 of those years was with the love of his life, Ruth Watson.
After graduating from Miami of Ohio with a degree in Pulp and Paper, he pursued a career in the paper industry, rising to the position of Global Paper Technical Service Manager for The Dow Chemical Company. He was loved by his family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. He was a friend to everyone, always willing to help others, a great storyteller, encourager, compassionate, generous, caring, and a loved husband and father. As one of his coworkers said, "I have long admired Jim's kindness, humility, passion for work, and love for his amazing family." He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Erin (Mark) Brafford, Kristen (Bill) Kerwood and Todd (Mandy) Watson; sister-in-law, Jane (Joe) Burns; brother-in-law, Tom (Angela) Helmly; extended family, Mike (Lisa) Hilliker; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eric Watson; and sister-in-law, Marie Helmly Brooks.
A celebration of Jim's life will take place this Sunday, Jan. 30, at 3 p.m., at Impact Church International, 44 Cabarrus Ave. W, in Concord, with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.
