L.J. Foster Obituary

CONCORD - Mr. L.J. Foster Jr., of Union Bay Court, Concord, passed away Tuesday at CMC-NorthEast. His funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Westford United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jeff Rushing. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wilkinson Funeral Home. L.J. was born July 8, 1923, in Cabarrus County, to the late Lee J. Foster and Iva Motley Foster. He was owner of Southern Pest Control, an active member of Westford UMC and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara; son, Randy; brothers, Rankin, John and Hubert; and sister, Arvonia. The friends of L.J. were many and remember him as a youthful spirit with an innate love for people. He had an extraordinary gift for making friends and was ever eager to spread a smile. His extroverted nature allowed him to touch so many throughout his life and he was never at a loss for a joke. L.J. delighted in singing in the Westford UMC choir for more than 50 years, and though he was the eldest member, he was often the most mischievous. His family had the great fortune of being very present in his life, residing only a mile from his home and continually sharing his laughter. His absence will leave a void but his beautiful spirit lives on through his lasting love. L.J. is survived by his daughter, Alyson F. Caldwell and husband, Paul; granddaughters, Sara Beth and Katherine; and by a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Westford United Methodist Church, 273 N.C. 49 S., Concord, NC 28025. Online condolences may be sent to www.wilkinsonfuneralhome.com Wilkinson Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Alyson, I am so sorry to hear about your Father. I remember him always having a smile and playing ball with the neighborhood gang in the street in front of your house and in your back yard. I think alot about the old neighborhood and a lot of the memories are centered around that big back yard. I saw him some years back when he came out to spray my wife's grandmother's house and he was the same as I remembered him. My prayers are with you.

My husband and I moved here in 2003 and shortly after met L.J. and others at the mall where we go to walk in the mornings. We were blessed to get the opportunity to know this wonderful man! We know for sure that he was welcomed into the Gates of Heaven. Our hearts go out to his remaining family and friends for we know they are feeling a tremendous loss. We just wanted to let you know how far his kindness and gentleness extended to newcomers such as us. He will be well remembered!

Allison, Paul & girls, my heart was broken yesterday as i read about L.J. I am so sorry. He was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and friend. It seems like yesterday that we live up the street from you. I have very happy and sorrowful memories of that time in our lifes. I think of Randy all of the time, and when i meet your daughter at the drs. office a few months ago, I could see Randy in her. What a beautiful girl with a beautiful sprite, and her Uncle Randy's smile. Allison, we will be lifting you and your family up to our mighty Father and he will get you through. If I can do anything for you, any time, please let me know. I know that your mom and Randy were waiting at the gates with Jesus to welcome L.J. into the Kingdom. Oh! What a glorious time that must have been! We will see them all again soon. Lots of Love, and Lots of Prayers to you all. Teresa Smith-Green, Michael Green and Miranda Nicole ("Randi")Motley

I sang in the choir with LJ since 1991. He called me his little devil. I could always count on LJ to give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek every Sunday morning. He was a great friend and he will be dearly missed in my life. I am so sorry, but I know LJ is up in heaven singing with the angels and that puts a smile on my face!

God Bless

I grew up in Westford and sang in the choir with LJ for a short time and always enjoyed his humor and smile. He was one of the cornerstones of the church. I'm sorry to hear of his passing but rejoice in knowing he loved the Lord.
