Myrtle Sifford Obituary

SALISBURY - Mrs. Myrtle Gulledge "Mert" Sifford, 75, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Mert, as she was known to her friends, was born in Mt. Croghans, S.C. on Jan. 7, 1935, a daughter of the late Perkins Gulledge and Nora Tucker Scruggs. She was a 1955 graduate of A. L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, and attended Mt. Vernon Bible College in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Mrs. Sifford retired from Cannon Mills in 1970, due to her health and was a member of Rowan Christian Assembly. Survivors include her husband, Frank L. Sifford, whom she married on Oct. 13, 1962, and son, Franklin L. "Linn" Sifford II, of Salisbury. The visitation will be at Powles Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Brookhill Memorial Gardens by Dr. Glynn Dickens, pastor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Christian Assembly Building Fund, 923 N. Salisbury Ave., GQ, Salisbury, NC 28146. Online condolences can be made to the Sifford Family at www.powlesfuneralhome.com. Powles Funeral Home is assisting the Sifford family.
