Robert "Bobby" Smith

June 5, 1966 - October 7, 2021

Robert "Bobby" Smith, 55, of Kannapolis, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, with his family by his side, at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

He was born June 5, 1966, in Greensboro, to Ronald Smith and the late Jean May Smith.

Those left to carry on his legacy include his wife, Susan Tucker Smith; son, Caleb Benjamin Smith (Maggie May); father, Ronald Smith; sister, Martha McDonald (Keith); and nieces and nephews, Josh, Ashley, Samantha, Alyssa, Destiny, Katie, Dakota, and Tori.

Bobby recently retired from Cabarrus County as the emergency management director. He served more than three decades to our country, our state, and our community. Bobby was a U.S. Navy veteran, and a leader in emergency management whose public service has spanned more than 34 years. His career began in 1985 as a telecommunicator and emergency medical technician for Guilford County. He continued on to serve as a firefighter, fire inspector, and fire investigator within the Greensboro Fire Department. In 2001, Bobby accepted a position in Cabarrus County as a fire marshall, later becoming the emergency management director.

Most importantly, Bobby valued his relationship with the Lord and others were always able to see God through him. He was a servant of God and loved to show this through ministering, teaching and doing things for others. Bobby loved spending his time with his family and friends but especially loved going to the movies with his son and wife. He loved all animals, especially birds and was fond of the family dog, Bella. Bobby also loved spending time with family and friends in Emerald Isle.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17, at First Baptist Church of Kannapolis, with the Rev. Tom Cabaniss officiating. Military honors to be provided by the Navy and a celebration of life fellowship will immediately follow the service.
