Arlene Stoehr Obituary

Arlene Lorraine Schoenberg Stoehr,79, resident of Kings Grant Lane, wife of John Joseph "Jack" Stoehr, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Born March 20, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Smutney Schoenberg. A 1962 graduate of St. Nicholas Catholic High School in Brooklyn, Arlene grew up in Queens, New York, where she lived just down the hill from her future husband, Jack. The two shared a beautiful marriage, one that few are blessed to experience in a lifetime.

She and Jack moved to Greenwood in 2003, where she quickly made many close friends. Known for her spunky personality, Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and matriarch of her family. She loved cooking, tending to her plants and flowers, and entertaining friends and loved ones. Thoughtful, kind, and giving, she found great joy in caring for others and was famous among her grandchildren for her homemade chocolate chip pancakes.

A faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Arlene volunteered both there and at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 63 years, are her son, John Stoehr (Carolyn) of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Lauryn Scafa (Vincent) of Long Island, NY, and Denise Vianello (John)of Ninety Six; two sisters, Carole Ann Martinetti of Maryland and Kathy Reilly (Daniel) of Long Island, NY; eight grandchildren, Vincent Scafa (Jessica), Melissa Lane (Mark), Anthony Cape, Jessica Scafa (Christopher Neitzel ), Amanda Cape, Jacquelyn, John, and Rose Stoehr; one step-granddaughter, Kimberly Vianello; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Landon Lane. She is also survived by special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Philip and Rosemary Stoehr of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the service in St. Bernadette's Hall.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, or Agape Hospice.
