Fred Magruder Frederick Augustin (Fred) Magruder, 83, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Hospice House.
Fred was born in Jackson, MS on June 3, 1935, to Abbey Wailes and Christine Herbert Magruder.
He was a graduate of St. Bernard Prep School, Cullman, AL and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He had a thirty-five year career as a design engineer and retired in 1995 from Easton Aluminum Company in Van Nuys, California, one of the premier producers of aluminum arrows and baseball bats in the world.
After retirement Fred moved to Savannah Lakes in McCormick, SC. There he was a member of the McCormick Lions Club and served as its president. In 2014 he moved to Wesley Commons in Greenwood, where he lived until his death
He was pre-deceased by his parents, a brother, Abbey Wailes Magruder, Jr., and a nephew, Leslie Charles Magruder. He is survived by a sister, Christine Magruder Hackl of Indianapolis, IN, a brother, Dr. Christopher Herbert Magruder and his wife Anne, of Greenwood, a sister-in-law, Lillian Magruder of Jackson, MS; and by thirteen nieces and nephews: Abbey Wailes Magruder III (Vernon), Elizabeth Magruder Joiner (John), Christine Hackl Walsh (Michael), Albert James Hackl Jr (Marguerite), Martha Hackl Smith (Stephen), Frederick Abbey Hackl (Marita), Elizabeth Hackl Brainard, Ellen Hackl Fagan, Robert Theodore Hackl (Jo), Dorothy Hackl Reiser (Carl), Christopher Herbert Magruder Jr., Thomas Abbey Magruder, and James Frederick Magruder, 35 grand nieces and nephews, and16 great grand nieces and nephews, and by his special friend, Nancy Wolf.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Asbury Hall, Wesley Commons. The family will receive friends before the service.
A burial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday in Jackson, MS at Lakewood Memorial Park.
