Gary Brissie, Sr. Obituary
Born December 31, 1934, in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Dan Brissie and Ruby Finley Brissie. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School, Class of 1952, and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 44 years of dedicated service.
Gary was a member of Woodfields Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 71 years, Patsy; four children, Carol Bledsoe of Johnston, SC, Sharon Smith (Nathan) of Greenwood, Dianne Gortney (Tommy) of Greenwood, and Leonard Gary Brissie, Jr. (Betty Williams) of Waterloo; two sisters, June Haining of Lincolnville, ME, and Carolyn Payne of Laurens; and a brother, Sam Brissie (Jeannie) of Shelby, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren, Heather Sanders (Kyle), Jennifer Gortney (James Patterson), Linsey Harrold (Marcus), Zachary Gortney, and Trey Bledsoe; and five great-grandchildren, Madison Sanders, Ellis Sanders, Leilani Harrold, Malachi Harrold, and Parker Bledsoe.
He was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Brissie; a granddaughter, Ashley Traynham; and a son-in-law, Lee Bledsoe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2025, from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chuck Sprouse officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 Monday afternoon.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Traynham, Trey Bledsoe, Otis Murray, Nathan Smith, Tommy Gortney, Zachary Gourtney and Mike Gantt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America at mymsaa.org
Blyth Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the Brissie family.
