Ian Hubbard Obituary

Ian MacDonald Gleig ("Mac") Hubbard, 89, resident of Greenwood, husband of Hollace Raad Hubbard, died Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont. Born in Manila, Philippines Islands. He was the son of the late Mark Egerton and Keith MacDonald Hubbard. He spent the first eight years of his life in the Philippines, including a year and a half as a Japanese prisoner of war, in Santo Tomas Internment Camp, in Manila. He, his mother, and brother, Colin, sailed to New York in 1943, in a prisoner exchange, and settled in Laguna Beach, CA. Upon his mother's death in 1949, he moved to San Francisco, then to New Jersey, where he attended high school and college.

He graduated from Drew University, Madison, NJ, class of 1958 and served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA. Immediately after his release from active of active duty he worked in the college admissions office of Drew University and of Eckerd College (formally Florida Presbyterian College), St. Petersburg, FL. He began a career in financial aid in 1973 at Wesleyan College (Macon, GA). He came to Lander in 1980, and completed his career as Director of Financial Aid in December 2000. He was an active member of several financial aid professional organizations at the national, regional, and state levels. He served as president of the SC Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators for the 1985-1986 year and was on several committees of these associations throughout his career.

Survivors include his wife Holly, his daughter Laurie Ann Hubbard, of California, his sister-in-law, Jackie Hubbard, of California, two granddaughters, Katherine Shaddix and Rachel Shaddix and two great-granddaughters, Emily Kay and Charlotte Ann. He was predeceased by his brother, Colin Philip Gleig Hubbard, MD and by his son, Mark Phillip Hubbard.

Mac wants to thank the leaders and members of his Parkinson's Class at the YMCA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, the Greenwood Humane Society, or to the Ian M. Hubbard Scholarship, c/o the Lander Foundation.

It is also Mac's hope that all those who read this announcement will consider becoming a universal organ donors.
