James Oliver DeVeaux

James Oliver DeVeaux, affectionately known as Gene or Doc to his friends, was born on September 20, 1955, in McCormick, South Carolina. He peacefully departed this life on November 11, 2025, at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie DeVaux Sr. and Mrs. Maggie Louise DeVaux.

He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Latoya (Tacia) DeVeaux of Myrtle Beach, SC, Setarra (Ronnie) Robinson of Mint Hill, NC, and Abriel Brown of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren: Michael Adams and Camarra Monae; and five siblings: Mr. Joe M. (Marquetta) DeVaux of Columbus, OH, Mr. Archie (Fritzella) DeVaux of Irmo, SC, Mr. Thomas L. (Val) DeVaux of Augusta, GA, Mrs. Georgia D. Hampton of Augusta, GA and Ms. Eula DeVaux of Greenville, SC. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who love and adore him dearly. He is also fondly remembered by his former wife and lifelong friend, Carolyn Turner DeVeaux, mother of his daughters Latoya and Setarra.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Mount Zion AME Church, McCormick, SC. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Services are entrusted to Richie Funeral Home, Inc.
