Jimmy Burns Obituary

James "Jimmy" Calhoun Burns III, 79, resident of Pinecrest Drive, widower of Judith Metts Mundy Burns, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Wesley Commons Rehabilitation Center.

Born April 26, 1944, in Greenwood, SC, he was a son of the late Virginia McGowan Burns and James C. Burns Jr. Jimmy graduated from Greenwood High School, Lander College and attended the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was a US Army Reserve Veteran and owned Burns & Burns Insurance for over 50 years. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and a member of the Gamecock Club for over 50 years. Jimmy was also an Eagle Scout and had two grandchildren follow in his footsteps.

Surviving are three daughters, Alison Mundy Burns Parham (Curtiss Edward "Eddie" Parham), Judith St. Claire Burns Donaghy (Glenn Michael Donaghy), and Eleanor Mundy Burns Price (Kenneth "Kenny" Ray Price); seven grandchildren, Judith Chandler Burns, Paul Clayton Thomas Jr., Virginia Glenn Donaghy, Charles Burns Price, Julia St. Claire Donaghy, Kenneth McGowan "Mac" Price, and Benjamin Mundy Price; two great-grandchildren, Ava Delaney Rouse and Anakin Dreher Green.

He was predeceased by an infant son and infant daughter and a sister, Virginia Burns Gunnells.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Chuck Moates officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
