Matthias Elam Obituary
Matthias was a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in McCormick and also attended South Main Baptist Church in Greenwood. He enjoyed sports, interaction with people and loved God. Matthias was #9 on the Abbeville Tarheels Baseball Team, served as water boy for the Abbeville Panther Football Team, and was a 5th grader at Westwood Elementary School. He was a compassionate, kind and thoughtful young man; mature beyond his years, his life touched countless people. His ambition was to be a mortician.
Matthias was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wilson Elam, Jr and grandmother, Mary Elmore.
He was loved by many and those left to cherish his memories are his mom and step-dad, Desarae Elam and Neece Ray of Abbeville; his dad, James Elmore of Greenwood; his grandmother, Gloria Elam of McCormick; two brothers, George and Avery Thomas; two sisters, Erica Brown and Mary Thomas; many beloved aunts and uncles from the Elmore/Morton and Elam families; special aunt, Shiqueen N. Quarles; special uncle, Regenel Brown; godparents, Rev. and Mrs. Ernest and Nearldean Woodson; and godbrother, Brandon Woodson.
Public viewing for Matthias will be Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM and the family will receive friends from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, 702 Main St., McCormick, SC with Rev. Ernest Woodson, III presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Matthias will be placed in the church on Thursday at 10:00AM.
The family is at the residence.
