Michael Monaghan

Michael "Mike" Monaghan, 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Grass Valley, California.

Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, Mike built a distinguished life of service across the country. He raised his family in California before advancing his career as a Fortune 500 executive in New Jersey. Upon retirement, he settled in South Carolina, where he discovered his true calling in community service.

An Army veteran, Mike was deeply committed to serving others. He was an active member of American Legion Post 20 in Greenwood, South Carolina, serving as Post Treasurer for many years. He also served as Treasurer for the local Lion's Club and participated in several other civic organizations. His dedication to public service culminated in 24 years as an elected official for the Greenwood Commissioners of Public Works, a regional utility providing electricity, water, gas, and sewer services to the community.

Mike enjoyed an active retirement filled with golf and card games with friends. He cherished time spent on the golf course and around the card table, building lasting friendships through his favorite pastimes.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Sue, who passed away eight years ago, and an adopted son Bulmaro. Mike is survived by two sons, an adopted daughter-in-law, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, all residing in Northern California. He spent his final three years living with his son and family in Grass Valley.

Mike will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to community service, his love of family, and his generous spirit. A family event will be held.
