Ronald DAvenport Obituary

Ronald Lee Davenport, born April 2, 1953 in Greenwood, SC was the son of Floyd Lindsey Davenport, and Barbara Ann Nalley Davenport and died Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Hospice House in Greenwood.

Ron lived his entire life in his native Greenwood community graduating from Greenwood High School, and Lander College. While in high school, he drove a school bus and was a member of the first 100 in the JROTC Program, where he rose to the rank of Lt Colonel as the Battalion Commander. He received the JROTC Sabre award in his senior year.

In October 1975, Ron began his law enforcement career at the Greenwood Police Department serving as a patrolman. He was later promoted to Sergeant, followed by a promotion to Lieutenant. He had over 33 years in law enforcement at different agencies, including Probation, Parole, & Pardon Services, and the 8th Circuit Solicitors Office.

Ron was active in family genealogy, and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing.

Ron is survived by his two sons, Ronald Lee "Chip" Davenport II, J Russell Davenport, and Leslee Ann Davenport McCarty; grandchildren Haley Davenport, Madison Davenport, Sophia Davenport, Parker McCarty, Ashton McCarty, Tucker McCarty, Colbee Davenport; one sister, Deborah Lynn Jardine, a nephew Christopher Chad Jardine, a niece, Crystal Jardine Crain, and his closest friend, Barbara Drayton.

Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Butler officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Booker, Jr., Rashad Booker, Ryan Booker, Elijah Booker, Larry Scott, Steve Nicholson, Carey Wells, David Gambrell and Tommy Tunstall.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday evening.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
